Many biker events have a rich legacy and deep history. Some may dispute how genuinely old school many of the older and now commercialized events really are. Whatever they’ve become now, none of this can totally undermine the decades of old school history many of these events have built up.
1. Laconia Motorcycle Week
Laconia in New Hampshire dates back to 1916 and is the world’s oldest motorcycle rally. What could be more old school than the oldest motorcycle rally ever! Sure it’s changed a lot over the years, but honorable legacy remains.
2. Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
The first rally in Sturgis dates back to 1937 and the Indian motorcycle riding Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club. The 10-day event traditionally is held in August and routinely has over half a million bikers in attendance. The event had some hiccups due to gasoline rationing during WWII, but remains a classic in terms of old school motorcycle events.
3. Daytona Beach Bike Week
Daytona is another 10-day event with a rich old school history. It started as the Daytona 200 race in 1937, but like Sturgis they took a multiyear hiatus due to World War II. The event features world-class light and pyrotechnic show. A true old school biker event.
4. Myrtle Beach Bike Week
Myrtle Beach started in South Carolina as The Spring Rally in 1940. The event has changed immensely since then, but remains a truly historic old school biker event. Like Daytona, bikers from around the county ride in to enjoy the Atlantic coastline. This is a true riding event as many bikers come from around the country to ride along the coast as they join old friends and meet new ones at the same time.
